For our final project of the first semester, the studio was challenged with the idea of being stuck in a room for a year. This was prevalent, since the year was 2020, and we had all freshly experienced being in quarantine for an extended period of time. Having experienced the isolation associated with quarantine, I had many ideas to include in the space to improve the daily life of someone stuck in the same room for an entire year.
Primarily, I wanted the client to have ample room to get up and get moving. To accomplish this, I manipulated the integral pieces of the room (the bed, closet space, etc) in order to make room for a makeshift gym.
Knowing the importance of hobbies during a time of isolation, I added a balcony that held an easel facing a vegetable garden. This addition serves two purposes - to provide the client with an artistic, creative outlet while also giving them the opportunity to incorporate fresh food into their diet.
